The days are longer and the air is warmer and, so, entertaining tends to shift from small intimate indoor fetes to larger, outdoor gatherings. Backyard parties are the cornerstone of summer entertaining.
Fun and Games
If you’re hosting a party with kids, you’ll want to have plenty of toys and activities to keep them occupied. A great way to keep them entertained, and outside, is a nature scavenger hunt. We don’t think there need to be prizes for every game but if you feel it’s important, handing out ice pops or glow sticks is a nice way to keep it simple.
Grown ups like to play games too, and life size Jenga or Twister circles spray painted onto lawn are great ways to get even the shyest guests involved.
S’mores
As day turns to night, think about setting up an outdoor movie theatre by hanging a sheet or a drop cloth from some two by fours, or even the side of the house. Your older guests can enjoy their after dinner drinks and conversation under soft lighting, or by a fire pit, where everyone can roast marshmallows and make s’mores. Who doesn’t love summer?
