To me, being an event hustler means: An event hustler is the person everyone knows, respects and admires. They help create unforgettable experiences and always have a smile on their face when they’re doing it.
The top 2 most surprising things I’ve learned about the events industry since starting are: It’s a massive industry – $500b+! Learning that large conferences plan events 5+ years in advance blew my mind.
How did you get your start in the events industry? Our CEO introduced me to the events world in 2013 and I’ve loved it ever since. Now ST throws our own customer events which is adding to my level of love for our industry!
My biggest event industry pet peeve is: My biggest pet peeve is mainly the outside perspective that event planners just pick a venue and pick some food. Everyone thinks planning events is “easy” but it’s one of the most complicated jobs in the world.
“No such thing as TMI”
One thing that would really surprise people to learn about me is: I grew up on a farm in Ohio and spent my summers bailing hay!
You can only keep 2 albums in your entire music collection -those albums would be: The first ‘Now That’s What I Call Music!’ CD because I’ll need it to help my kids understand my childhood and ‘The Definitive Collection of the Temptations’ because it’s timeless!
10yr old me thought I’d grow up to be: A trashman! I thought riding on the outside of a truck was SO cool.
Text or phone call?: Both at the same time. I love how fast people can communicate today. I’ll have a text, email and chat conversation going with the same person, on 3 different topics.

One thing that would really surprise people to learn about me is: is that I’m also a magic consultant. I’m a producer, director and inventor of magic tricks for TV shows. I’ve been a magician for over 20 years and I love this stuff!

The most innovative use of event tech I’ve ever seen is: I think the use of Google Hangouts two years ago during Event Camp Europe for a virtual wine tasting – on site and in 4 remote hybrid meeting pods. They shipped out the wine in advance. The winemaker came on to describe the wine, everyone heard the description, felt the wine glass in their hand, saw the color and legs, smelled the bouquet and tasted the wine. All 5 senses were engaged using free technology that just a decade ago would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars with satellite feeds.
My go-to guilty pleasure food is: I usually eat very healthy and am almost a vegetarian. However, very occasionally can’t resist a well prepared side of barbequed baby-back ribs.
