We talked to Lisa Batra, Founder and CEO of My Kid’s Threads

My Kids' Threads

First of all, please tell our readers about you – what is the company all about?

My name is Lisa Batra and I am the Founder and CEO of My Kid’s Threads, www.mykidsthreads.com, an online consignment shop for busy moms to buy and sell designer kids’ clothes. Kids go through 7 sizes of clothing in the first 2 years of life and moms face the problem of dressing their kids without breaking the bank!

After spending 15 years working as an executive for Fortune 500 companies (QVC, Limited Brands, Lowe’s and Charming Shoppes), and having two kids of my own, I started My Kid’s Threads to offer a hassle-free solution to unloading clothes that no longer fit and have a lot of life left in them!

What were the 3 keys to getting the company off the ground – where did you invest your time?

I invested my time into usability and testing for mykidsthreads.com, marketing and operations. As a single member Founder, I wear many hats and handle everything thing from customer relations, marketing, PR and order fulfillment.

Just having participated in the Amplify Your Brand Workshop with Sabina Hitchen and Janine Just, what role do live events play in your branding and marketing initiatives?

When I started My Kid’s Threads, I knew very little about PR and how to reach out to the media and market my brand. I didn’t have the budget to hire a PR firm and started looking for ways to do it myself . I started working with Sabina and Katie at Tin Shingle and I learned so much! They are great supporters with a wealth of knowledge. I was so excited to have the opportunity to attend the Amplify Your Brand Workshop with Sabina and Janine, two powerhouses in the industry. This live event facilitated many introductions with entrepreneurs, the media and influencers.

Live events are important to my business and My Kid’s Threads is very active in the community. We host and partner with other small businesses, sponsor charity events and support women entrepreneurs.

What was a successful social media campaign you hosted that showed great engagement and traction?

My Kid’s Threads and Mom blogger, Pennies into Pearls partnered together to run a successful giveaway for My Kid’s Threads. We both gained followers while marketing our brands and content.

Finally, what is your favorite app?

Favorite app is Buffer. We use it to plan and schedule posts in advance. I wish Canva had an app!
